CONFERENCE TEAM NOTES:
MEMPHIS:
Best QB, Henigan, in the conference is a good start, he has NFL possibilities. 17 starters and 42 lettermen is also rather helpful. WR Taylor will be All-Conference. Add in some key P5 transfers and they are primed to win this conference. They may well lead the nation in scoring this season, the defense should be improved but still liability.
UTSA:
Biggest problem is who is not here, HC Willie Fritz. He built them and ran the show. Transfers, QB Thompson, WR's Preston, Williams can be starsfer QB McCown will need to be yp to speed game one, TE Cardenas can be a star., and several defensive transfers need to live up to hype. Losing Trey Moore would hurt any defense.
TULANE:
Biggest problem is who is not here, HC Willie Fritz. He built them and ran the show. Transfers, QB Thompson, WR's Preston and Williams can be stars. The defense will need play as well as last season.
USF:Simply, they will go as far as QB Brown takes them, 8 starters back on defense but that defense was bad.
E CAROLINA:
Yes they were 2-10 last year and this is a major jump but I like this team. Can former elite QB recruit Garcia find his mojo here? CB Revel as a real chance to be a Day 2 NFL draft pick next season.
ARMY:
Typical Army team, tough, gritty, disciplined and always dangerous, but limited athletically.
FAU:They will struggle offensively, top returning passer, 35 yards, RB 85 years, receiver 104 yards, the defense should be solid but with little margin for error.
UAB:
With defense that allowed 36.9 PPG last year returning only 4 this season could be quite troublesome. Transfers contributing day one will be vital. I'm really not sold at all on Dilfer at HC. This season is big for him.
N TEXAS:
Only 11 starters return from a 5-7 team, transfers will be huge. The defense must be wildly better than 37.1 PPG
NAVY:As usual the running game will carry them. Production from DL will be key to defense, the back 7 are solid.
TEMPLE:
10 returning starters in not a good start. They need to get production at QB and find a running game, not likely, schedule soft so that helps.
RICE:
The schedule maker was unkind to the Owls, they must play Memphis, Tulane, UTSA, USF tough road games at UAB and Army. They will be a better team than their record will show.
CHARLOTTE:
Last seasons QB's combined for 6 TD's and 14 INT's and a QB led them in rushing. Transfer Max Brown will get 1st shot, I'm not sold, long season ahead here.
TULSA:
They were outscored 33.8-23.4 last year, 4 starters and only 15 letterman return to defense. Long season ahead
